A couple of weeks ago, my sister shared this SuperSoul Session with me and it’s been on my mind since. The part that’s really stuck with me is the conversation around the power of intention. As I listened, I realized it’s been awhile since I last visited my own intentions.
Over these past several months, I focused a lot on goal-setting and it’s been so gratifying to see each goal gradually come to fruition. But, every once in awhile, I’d notice this quiet thought pop up that something was missing. At first, I thought it was because I wasn’t feeling aligned with my long-term goal yet. That it was my longing to be somewhere I haven’t quite reached. Hearing this SuperSoul session sparked a deeper truth within me though. The misalignment I was feeling was due to something I hadn’t been paying enough attention to.
The thought that kept creeping in about something missing was because my sense of purpose behind all the goals was slowly fading. Glimmers of this purpose would get re-sparked any time I had an experience that connected me back to it like working with my awesome clients or making my own personal breakthroughs. But the connection wasn’t consistent.
I had one of those “Aha moments” Oprah’s always talking about as I listened to her conversation with Gary Zukav. This connection wasn’t consistent because I hadn’t checked in with my intentions recently!
I had a clear sense of direction because of the goal-setting, but my reason for going in the first place was getting dimmer and dimmer. This was why something felt off for me even as the goals were being accomplished.
Intention is the soul of the goal. It’s what breathes life into our ambitions.
The soul of my goals was in desperate need of an update. So last week, I sat down and explored the intentions I had swimming around in my head. To make it a little easier and be more specific, I focused on three different areas of my life life: spiritual, personal, and professional. All three intersect with each other, but separating them helped me get clear.
A few of the intentions I came up with were:
- Show up!
- Allow yourself to take up space.
- Approach situations with mindfulness and practice being present.
- Find joy and magic in every day.
- Be of service.
- Spread love and kindness.
- Be a laughter and happiness ambassador.
It’s been a long time since I last did this activity and it was an even better experience than I anticipated. It feels like… everything I’m doing makes sense again. And I feel refreshed.
I made a promise to myself that I’ll revisit this list every month. It’ll be a chance for me to reconnect with the intentions and avoid falling into the trap of feeling disconnected again. Turning it into a monthly practice will help me evaluate how I’m doing and if each of these intentions still resonate with me. It’ll also give me the opportunity to add any new ones that come up.
I’m feeling pretty pumped about this and I think YOU should join in on the fun!
Living intentionally is a key step to creating a meaningful day and life.
When was the last time you thought about or wrote down your intentions?
