Blogcast: 5 Strategies to Turn Your Dream Into Reality

Have you ever been really excited about a new idea, but struggled to take the leap and go for it? Do you still think about that idea these days? 

Maybe you’re feeling pulled in too many directions to focus any time, energy, and attention on it. Or perhaps the project feels bigger than you and just thinking about it is overwhelming. Whatever the case may be – is this idea or project still on your heart, but unclear in your head?  

Here at Bold True Life, this is definitely a familiar story. So many of our clients struggle with bringing their dream or goal to fruition. And, of course, we’ve been there too! That’s why we’re talking all about vision this month. 

It’s the beginning of a new year and decade. A time that often gets us thinking about how we’d like to spend the next several months and even years. Considering all the possibilities is exciting, but it can also be nerve-racking and overwhelming right?

There are so many unknown factors involved. It’s impossible to tell exactly how things might turn out in the future. But we have all of our past experiences, lessons, and stories to draw from. It’s honestly a lot to think about. 

Having all this in mind, some of the intentions, ideas, and goals you’re considering might seem like a biiiig stretch. One that you don’t know how to actually make yet. How do you get from where you are now to the place that you want to be? 

Or maybe staying committed to your goal long-term is the part that’s always a challenge. What happens when life inevitably distracts you? 

If these are questions that you’ve ever had, this blog post is for you! Today, I’m sharing 5 practical tips to help you stay committed to your exciting idea and bring it to life. Because I know how challenging the process can be. And I also know how good it feels to accomplish a meaningful goal. 

From my journey of becoming a coach, to officially starting this business, and everything that’s followed since… I’ve learned so many important lessons along the way. 

Here are 5 of the most valuable strategies I’ve learned for pursuing a big idea and sticking to it (even when things get tough!):


1. Develop a clear vision.

You have a great idea. Now it’s time to turn it into a full-fledged vision. This means getting clear on how exactly you see this idea playing out. Imagine where you’ll be, what you’ll be doing, and how you’ll feel when you achieve this vision. 

Paint as vivid of a picture as possible. Give yourself permission to dream in detail. The clearer your vision is, the easier it’ll be to make an effective plan and reach it.


2. Break it up into bite-size goals.

Once you’re clear on your vision, you can start coming up with an action plan! 

Having a big vision can definitely get overwhelming at times. But breaking your vision down into simple steps is a great way to break free of a lot of that overwhelm. 

By focusing on one task at a time, you can map out steps that actually feel doable. So you won’t face quite so much resistance when it comes to getting each task done.

Try to map out 5-10 tasks at a time. Complete them. And then come up with your next 5-10.


3. Schedule it.

After you’ve come up with 5-10 tasks, you’ll need to block out the time on your calendar to get them done. Dedicate a set number of hours and a specific time each week to work on the steps you mapped out. And then mark it on your calendar. 

By scheduling it, you’re more likely to show up and focus on the task at hand. Consistency is one of the keys to accomplishing a big vision. So set yourself up for success by setting aside a consistent block of time in your schedule. 


4. Let go of perfectionism.

Once you’re consistently working towards your vision, a big challenge that you’ll probably run into is wanting to do everything perfectly. Getting caught up in perfectionism will drive you crazy and hold you back.  

It is important to have high expectations and aim to meet them. But don’t let the need for perfection stop you from making progress. Because perfection is a myth. It doesn’t actually exist. 

You’re going to make mistakes along the way. And that’s ok. You’ll learn from them. So don’t worry about being perfect. Just focus on doing your best and getting better as you go!


5. Find mentors + a community of peers.

As you continue working towards success, one of the best things you can do for yourself is to build strong connections. Make an effort to surround yourself with sources of support. 

Having a community to share your struggles and celebrate your wins with is an underrated, but very necessary factor for success. Finding the right mentors to turn to for guidance as well as friends on a similar path will have a huge impact on your progress. 

Developing meaningful connections will take you further faster. These relationships will offer you a safe space to work through your challenges, help you stay accountable, and even grant you access to more useful resources.


There you have it – 5 of the best methods I’ve learned to bring a big vision to life. And now that I’ve shared them, I also feel compelled to say that January is not the only time of year you’re allowed to get started on these. They work just as well any other month of the year also. 

So if you’re not feeling ready to hit the ground running this month – that’s ok. You can take your time and apply each of these tools at a pace that feels right for you. What matters most is that you’re showing up and trying your best. And the strategies above are meant to help you do that in the most effective way possible.
